The award was appointed to Design Lab due to the digital development of the initiative in 2013. The competition with a ten year respected heritage was taken to the digital era, presenting future innovations online and also engaging the public and Electrolux experts in the conversation about how we wish our future homes to be like. Some of the milestones of the 2013 edition of Design Lab were the announcement of the Top 100+ concept innovations, introducing the development blogs of the contestants and of course the live streamed final event and the winner announcement.
The winning concept, Mab by Columbian design student Adrian Perez Zapata was also selected as People’s Choice through an online voting, became world famous and the concept was featured in many globally relevant media publications such as Mashable, Fast Company and Mail Online as well as becoming a YouTube hit.
Adrian Perez Zapata got to experience first hand in 2013 how he could reach a global audience through his Design Lab submission page and engage with the audience as well as receive feedback for his design from Elecrolux experts.
Many leading online publications, such as Mashable found Adrian’s innovative concept through Design Lab, highlighted it and creating an even bigger buzz.
One of the best vehicles to showcase Adrian’s concept are the videos Electrolux creates of the finalist concept. The video of Adrian’s concept Mab became popular in YouTube and was picked up by media and blogs.
Electrolux Design Lab is an ongoing innovation initiative by Electrolux, which seeks for new disruptive ideas for future innovation and presents these to the public for their enjoyment and inspiration. Social Media and PR Manager at Electrolux Salla Salokangas (pictured below left) sees that the public engagement is key in making Design Lab a success:
“Electrolux would like to thank everyone engaging in the Electrolux Design Lab initiative and supporting the brilliant minds we present with their votes, comments and by spreading the ideas forward through social media. Design Lab is a great springboard for the careers of young design talents as well as an online innovation bank nurturing a continuous conversation about what our lives and homes will be like in the future, so the support of the audience is what matters the most.”
