The Design Lab 2015 Final Expert Jury By: Electrolux Design Lab


Today we are happy to announce who will be in the expert jury at the final event of Design Lab 2015 to select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners of the competition. Head of the jury is Lars Erikson, Senior Vice President and Head of Electrolux Design.

Since 2014, Lars has been leading the company’s global design organization. The team is responsible for designing best-in-class home appliances for global and regional brands.

Lars holds two degrees, a Master’s of Science, Architectural Engineering, from the Royal
School of Technology in Stockholm and a Master’s of Fine Arts from the Royal College
of Art in Stockholm.

The second jury member is Hanna Harris, Programme Director of Helsinki Design week.
She oversees the festival programme and is editor-in-chief of the new all-year-round online publication Helsinki Design Weekly. Hanna’s education is in urban studies, new media, art and design and she has over 15 years of experience in the creative and arts and culture sectors.

Fredrik Magnusson completes the trio. Fredrik Magnusson is the founder and CEO at design & innovation venture Roder plus partner at the two design focused companies Houdini Sportswear and Maze Interior. Fredrik founded and managed the design agency Propeller, which was one of Sweden’s leading industrial design and innovation agencies for twelve years before he sold the company in 2005.

Prior positions include five years as Global Design Director at Swedish Ericsson and three years as Design Director at Finnish design brand Iittala. Fredrik has a Master’s of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design from Konstfack in Stockholm, Sweden and Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA.

#ASKfinalist to win with Design Lab By: Electrolux Design Lab


The final event of Design Lab 2015 takes place in Helsinki on October 15th and now you have the chance to follow the final event via webcast and also tweet a question to the finalists!

Once the six finalists step on stage at the final event, they will have ten minutes to present their concepts after which the jury will ask them some questions. But now, YOU also get the chance to ask a question to the finalists! Tweet your question* and remember to add the hashtags #AskFinalist and #DesignLab2015 with your question.

Remember also to state which concept your tweet is for so we know which contestant to ask the question.

 A few examples of the type of questions you can ask:

 What was the inspiration for VORIS?  #AskFinalist #DesignLab2015

 How many baby bottles can you wash at a time in Bloom?  #AskFinalist #DesignLab2015

We will choose the 6 best questions and ask them during the webcast at the event starting at 18:30 CET on October 15th.

The people whose question is chosen and asked will win an Electrolux Ergorapido!

Winner of “Vote & Win” People’s Choice competition By: Electrolux Design Lab


Design Lab  followers have had the chance to win a trip to the awards final event in Helsinki on October 15th by voting for their favourite in the People’s Choice competition. We are now happy to announce that the winner is: Jaime Fernandez from Spain!

The most popular concept out of the top 35 will receive the honourable People’s Choice Award and a 2 000 € cash prize. One of the lucky voters will get to join the the memorable final event in Helsinki together with a friend.

The 35 semi-finalists of Electrolux Design Lab 2015 revealed By: Electrolux Design Lab

Electrolux today announced the 35 semi-finalists of the Design Lab 2015 competition. 5 of the submissions qualified by public vote and 30 were selected by Electrolux experts from the previous stage of 100 concepts.

Thomas Johansson, Design Director and one of the Electrolux experts comments: “The semi-finalist concepts of Design Lab 2015 are original, innovative and thought provoking. The students have now received expert feedback and a new brief to further develop their ideas. As always it will be very exciting to follow this process online and engage in a conversation with the semi-finalists. In previous years we have seen good ideas turn in to great consumer propositions”

Next Stage

Based on the next stage concept development 6 finalists will be chosen by the Electrolux experts. The 6 finalists will be revealed on on September 15th.

Electrolux today announced the theme for its popular global design competition that annually receives more than 1,700 submissions from over 60 countries. In 2015 – its 13th year – the Electrolux Design Lab competition is looking for innovative ideas under the theme of Healthy Happy Kids. This year there is even more reason to join the competition, as the cash prizes have been doubled with the winner now receiving 10 000 Euros and a six-month paid internship at Electrolux. In 2014 the global student design competition received over 1 700 submissions offering solutions to Culinary Enjoyment, Fabric Care and Air Purification in the future home environments.
