Expert feedback, stage 3

The visual development work is impressive and the story about the shape resemblance is inspiring. In the functionality development stage you can concentrate more to explain how the appliance cleans (change of shape) and capabilities in performance. Good luck for the last stage!

2 Stage - Concept Development

-3F- will not only save you time and space, but will also surround you with cleanliness and fragrant scents of your choice.

Triple"F" stands for “Form Follows Function”, an appropriate catchphrase, since the physical body of this vacuum cleaner can change and mutate to suit the task required.
It is designed to economise space in compact and urban apartments; thanks to its autonomous mobility and capacity for physical metamorphosis, -3F- is a living product, responsive to its consumer’s needs. The inspiration for this product comes from ballet dancing: while at work it resembles a skirt, floating gracefully over your floor.

Beyond the realm of emotion, -3F- provides three main functions: it cleans, it disinfects, and it freshens the air in your home.

For this second phase, I have focused my work on the user experience through examining the consumer context. I based my approach on individual and personal moods linked to our experience of scent. Indeed, -3F- follows your behaviour and provides an all-encompassing immersion in a scented universe.
What I have changed from the first production phase, therefore, is the individualised and removable filters. Instead of replacing the filter after each use, I decided to include one unique multi-scent cartridge. This change seemed appropriate, firstly to increase the sustainability of the product, and secondly to link a particular fragrance to a particular location without the need to change the filter. Each room has its own character and each day has its own mood: -3F- allows you the freedom you deserve in your apartment.
Perhaps, for instance, you would prefer a sweet and fruity smell in your bedroom, while you would like a fresh and clean smell in your bathroom. -3F- will not only save you time and space, but will also surround you with cleanliness and fragrant scents of your choice.
Selecting and organising these preferences and settings on the -3F- can be done using your favourite smartphone or tablet in just a few seconds. Because -3F- is able to map your apartment, you can assign a scent to a location, set the timing and launch the cleaning; it’s as simple as that! A press of the button and your 3F has already started. The scent is also an indication of the cleaning task’s success. When it smells good, it is properly clean.
You can control your -3F- either with your smartphone, or mechanically, by pressing the top button (Filter cartridge) to switch it on. -3F- can also be used as a handheld vacuum cleaner to provide a punctual cleaning device for all heights; its size, moreover, allows you to carry it everywhere.
When conceiving -3F-, I wanted to go beyond the topic of "effortless cleaning" and the idea of merely making it more bearable - I wanted to create a totally new user-experience by making cleaning more pleasant and more enjoyable. Ultimately, life is not about simply spending moments but rather about seizing them.

The concept is interesting with a shape that transforms according to task and has autonomous mobility. In the visual development stage, you can also express in the visual details the functionality of the stretchable skin.

-3F- for Form Follows Function. Whether used in compact or wide mode, it is a vacuum cleaner providing efficiency, smartness and empathy to the user.

-3F- is a unique vacuum cleaner. The name is derived from the sentence "Form Follows Function". It also underlines the fact that this unique product offers 3 Functions: it cleans, it disinfects and it scents, thanks to different built-in filters.
The physical form of the 3F cleaner actually varies according to its current mode of usage: when its status is OFF, it stands erect to avoid wastage of space in compact apartments. When it is ON, it extends its base to gain better stability and a wider working surface.
Thanks to its stretchable skin, it seems alive and empathetic to the needs of the moment.
Moreover it offers the luxury of interchangeable scented filters. These work in the same way as Capsules used in coffee machine. That’s an apt analogy – after all, it is designed such that cleaning time becomes as enjoyable and effortless as a coffee break.
The 3F cleaner is fully autonomous and can even reach its charging base on its own. It can be controlled via smartphones and tablets, so that the user can ensure cleanliness from afar. When it is full, it will alert the user through his phone/tablet and through a visual warning.
It provides an effortless, efficient and convenient cleaning experience, which is what you would expect from a product of this calibre. What is unexpected, though, is the manner in which the product seems to understand your needs. The 3F cleaner is no frozen product. It has a smart mind of its own. Its heart, however, belongs to you.

Space efficient solution that cleverly uses all the functions to provide individualised scenting of the air. We are now interested in hearing more about how the concept functionality can be developed considering the consumer insight and context of use.

Emotion – How to enhance the link with home appliances?

Emotion : any strong agitation of the feelings actuated by experiencing love, hate, fear, etc., and usually accompanied by certain physiological changes, as increased heartbeat or respiration, and often overt manifestation, as crying or shaking.

To create an emotional product, you have to give it a soul.
How? Make it alive!

My project is inspired by ballet dance. -3F- is a kind of floating skirt, dancing on your floor.
Its skin makes it alive and creates empathy.
